On July 9, 2015, the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Council Teachers of English announced the state-level winners of the 2014-2015 Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition (Matt Cardoza, GaDOE Communications Office).  This annual event sponsored by the GADOE and GCTE encourages students K-12 to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, provides a context to celebrate writing successes, and recognizes student achievement in arts and academics.  Vidalia Comprehensive High School Freshman Jeremy Cowart was named a finalist in the contest by the GADOE and GCTE, representing First District RESA with his prose fiction, Cloudmarch.  In the spring, Cowart’s narrative was selected as the winning entry for the 9th grade class at VHS.  The system level contest for grades 9-12 was sponsored by Writers Incorporated, a student writing guild at VHS designed to promote the development of written expression and the publication of student writing beyond the local realm.  Jeremy is the son of Joshua Cowart and Candice Coursey.
